    Just gonna leave this right here as a reminder tha Just gonna leave this right here as a reminder that only you can prevent wildfires... the kind on the mountain and the kind inside yourself. ⁣ ⁣ You get to choose how you feel, act, react, what you say, how you say it, your effort, your attitude, your integrity, your beliefs, your character, what you fill your life with, and what you allow to live in your heart. You can’t control anybody else but you, my friend. The world is full of wildfires right now. Some are oh, so necessary but most are insignificant and petty. Don’t burn yourself over something that 5 years from now won’t even matter. ⁣ ⁣ Put down the phone. Log out of FB. Take a dirt road drive. Exercise. Eat some chocolate. Take photos. Watch an old movie. Create something. Write in your journal. Practice yoga. Sing some Willie & Waylon at the top of your lungs. Stay in a bubble bath until you’re all sorts of pruned. Talk to your mama. Sleep under the stars. ⁣ ⁣ Find what feels good and do more of that. I mean, unless it’s starting fires because Smokey’s so over it.
    We’ve been living off boiled eggs lately. And no We’ve been living off boiled eggs lately. And nope, I don’t use my fresh eggs for boiling. Fresh eggs are gold. What can I say, I’m weird like that. An instant pot makes easy peel eggs in minutes. I’ll never go back to boiling in a pan. It’s super simple, you guys! For a quick recipe, stop by the blog. This is phase 2 of my bedroom. Someday when kidneys and COVID stop slapping me in the face, I’ll get it finished. ⁣ ⁣ For now, I’m celebrating the fresh clean walls, repurposed courthouse panel headboard, crisp linen duvet, and late summer nights spent reading.     No, these aren’t perfectly staged Insta-worthy p No, these aren’t perfectly staged Insta-worthy photos but I just really don’t care and my grandma wouldn’t either so I’m gonna share anyway.⁣ ⁣ When I was a girl, we lived with my Great Grandma Anderson. We helped take care of her that last little bit of her life. I was only a tiny kid but to this day I vividly remember. She just had this way about her that made me feel like I was loved. Seen. Wanted. Madeline was something special. And she’s been my person ever since. After she passed, I’m pretty sure she took up the all consuming job of watching over me. Poor dear. I’ve felt her near over and over again throughout the years. I’m so grateful because oh man, I needed her.⁣ ⁣ Grandma made this quilt for my parents wedding, 40 years ago. My dad loved it to rags... He misses his grandma as much as I do. So for Father’s Day, I stole the quilt and remade it. It took me hours and hours of work, a little blood, and quite a few tears. I’ll never be known for my quilting skills, that’s for sure! There isn’t a straight stitch in the whole dang thing. But isn’t that the story of life? Pieced together one crooked stitch at a time. Unpicking, reworking, messing up, learning, patching holes, building on what came before.⁣ ⁣ Working alongside great grandma these last few weeks has been an experience I’ll never forget. As my hands laid where her’s once did, I felt her love for me as strong as I did as a 4 year old girl. Her old quilt is far from perfect, but it’s perfect for Dad and that’s good enough for me. ⁣ ⁣ She left me better than she found me, then and now. That is her legacy. That is the kind of woman I want to be.

    Hey girl. ⁣ ⁣ Don’t get caught up comparing Hey girl. ⁣ ⁣ Don’t get caught up comparing your squares to some other chick’s. Because right outside that pretty frame, her husband’s giant mutt just peed a lake on her rug. 💦
    This pandemic and my daughter’s newly diagnosed This pandemic and my daughter’s newly diagnosed health condition have changed everything. Forcing me to take a step back and reimagine what the coming summer months will be. We were going to see Disneyland for the first time since my youngest babe fit in a front pack. We had camps, trips, and weddings all planned. But those plans have fallen to pieces at our feet. Though I am sad for what I have lost, I am also grateful for what I’ve gained. Time. Time to play games with my kids. To breathe deep. Time to make real food. To take walks with my man. To eat and see, feel and write. To slow down. These past months have been so stressful and hard, but they’ve been precious too. Things aren’t always happy or sad... life is a little of every emotion all rolled into one messy, wondrous experience after another.⁣ ⁣ I don’t know what the days ahead hold but I hope there is time for the good stuff. Like late night chapters of Where the Red Fern Grows and hammocks holding grass covered 10 year old toes.
    There aren’t many photos with me in them. I cons There aren’t many photos with me in them. I constantly have a camera in my hand but I’ve never been very comfortable on the other side of one. My husband snuck this pic on our camping trip last week. It’s really not all that flattering. No makeup. Boots with sweats and flannel. But, when my kids look back, I hope this is the mama they see. The one who taught them how to reconnect to what matters on dusty mountain roads, sang around the campfire, and stayed up too late reading stories by flashlight. Lover of flowers, old things, hammocks, and fairy lights. Hugger of trees. Seeker of magic among the ordinary. ⁣ ⁣ I haven’t felt beautiful since 3 kids ago. My body paid a hefty price to get them here and I’ve never been the same. But I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. Being their mama is the greatest adventure I have ever had. It’s time to start showing up in the photos and prove it.

Thank goodness we get to start weaning her off soon. She’s lonely and wants me right by her side. I love her to the sun & stars, but Mama needs space and a little rest.⁣ ⁣ In an effort to keep her distracted, we tweaked a family recipe to create a lower sodium banana bread. She needs to learn these skills hands on, to know the how and why. As her meds decrease the strictness will relax, but she’ll always need to watch her salt. Salt. In everything. And it’s all so much for a 10 year old to process. She’s tired. I’m tired. But we’ll get there, one day at a time.
