I recently got some shiny new teeth.
Yeah, you weren’t expecting that one, were ya!
When I was a little girl, I had a gnarly accident involving my older cousins, a slide, and a lovely little cement barrier. Long story short, my front tooth was knocked out through my lip and the adult tooth that was forming in my gums got all sorts of messed up. When it grew in, only part of a tooth was there. My dad’s dear friend, “Uncle” Bill, did a fantastic job patching it with bonding when I was a self-conscious teenager. I knew it would have to be fixed permanently eventually, but always thought it could wait…that is until this year, when my poor deformed little tooth started turning brown. It was H O T, I tell ya! Well, I kept putting it off and putting it off until a crazy turn of events kind of forced me to get it fixed this month. I had to wear a temporary set of front teeth for 3 weeks and could hardly eat anything for fear that the dang things would pop off!
One of my FAVORITE things about fall is eating corn on the cob! Corn on the cob and temporary teeth do not mix. That makes a lot of sense and is totally obvious right? Yeah, wasn’t obvious to me when I was happily picking the corn from our garden and throwing it in the cooking pot! I took a big bite, and quickly realized my stupidity! Which left me with no other option than to cut the corn off the cob.
Thought I’d share a little trick for cutting corn from the cob that is easy and not messy. I don’t know who in the world came up with this trick, Nana {my mama’s mother} has done this all my life, but it sure makes a messy job a lot easier!
You’ll need:
Blanch your corn in a pot of boiling water for a couple minutes, then begin…
Stick your ear of corn into the hole of a Bundt pan. Start slicing off the kernels with your knife. Nana uses an electric bread knife, but I’m too lazy to pull mine out and put it together, so I just use a good sharp knife. Either way works great. Totally up to you.
Comes off quick and the pan catches all the mess instead of your counters! The corn above got cooked and then put in the fridge when I realized I couldn’t eat it. The next day I pulled it out an started cutting it all off. If it’s freshly blanched it will come off a lot prettier. But, hey, whatever works.
So, there you go, told you it was easy!
P.S. Having shiny, white, not deformed teeth is the coolest thing EVER! So worth the dang temporaries and crazy amounts of drilling and pain. Seriously, I should have done this sooner! When my poor little gums look a little prettier, I’ll post you a little peek at my pearlys. Eeek! I have pearly whites! For the first time in my life!

Every girl needs some pearls right….oh I guess we’ll just substitute those for diamonds haha. I need to can corn too, my Mom always did that bunt pan trick too
