My grocery store had a killer deal on fresh blackberries this last week. I got a whole case of 12 6 oz packages for under $7! My daughters have a thing for smoothies and I have a thing for deals so I couldn’t pass it up. Freezing berries is pretty simple and quick if you know some easy tricks. Here is a frozen berry hack I use to save time and money that can be used for more than just berries.
Look at all those pretty berries!

Now back to the post…
Ok, start off by rinsing your berries in a strainer then lay out on a towel to air dry. While your berries are drying, pull out a large sheet pan and line it with freezer paper, shiny side up. Freezer paper is the key, peeps! Lay the berries out on the freeze paper lined baking sheet in a single layer.
Put the whole baking sheet in the freezer over night.
Once the berries are nice and frozen, get your ziptop bag labeled and ready.
Pull the pan of berries from the freezer. Lift the freezer paper up by a corner to loosen the berries. If you’ve got a helper, you can even use the freezer paper to funnel the berries into your freezer bag.
The freezer paper keeps the berries from sticking to the pan which means no messy clean up!
All you have to do is throw your bag of berries in the freezer, toss the left over freezer paper, and put away your pan. Yep, that’s it! No soaking and scraping berries off your sheet pan. Just make sure your berries are mostly dry before putting on the pan. If you put them on wet they will most likely stick together in a clump.
When you’re done, you’ve got frozen berries just like the ones you buy in the store only without any added sugars and for a fraction of the price! Easy, right? Freezer paper, who knew?
You can use this hack with a ton of different foods. I love to freeze green beans from my garden this way so I can enjoy them all winter. Some other things I’ve stored using this frozen berry hack are bananas for bread, raw cookie dough, strawberries and mango for smoothies, and even squash chunks for soups and stews. There are so many possibilities!
So, next time you find a great deal on berries, don’t be scared.
Just use this frozen berry hack to save them for a rainy day and some smoothie loving tummies!
