I can’t believe how quickly Christmas flew by. I am happy to report that we spent our very first Christmas day in 14 years at home and it felt so nice! We are usually headed here and there on Christmas Day and our kids don’t get to play with their stuff until the day after, but this year we had the opportunity to just be home and be together. We soaked it all in and loved every single minute! We put away all the Christmas decorations yesterday and I was sad to see it go. With the new year on it’s way, I guess it’s time to prep for our January Family Focus, isn’t it?
I don’t know if it’s because I’m preparing to paint my house and do some cool projects, or if it’s just the excitement that a magical holiday season brings, but I’m ready for some fun! We want our kids to grow roots, to be strong, accountable, full of integrity, and compassion but also, we want our kids to fly. A well rounded person needs wonder, adventure, and a heaping dose of imagination, too.
What joy are roots with no wings?
With that in mind, our focus for January is…

What could be more fun than some imaginative play with our families?
If you aren’t the creative type, consider this month an opportunity to let loose and step out of your box. Try your hand at calligraphy, take a sewing class, pull out that paint set you bought but never had the courage to open! Whatever you do, don’t let fear stop you from using your imagination and strengthening your wings. Like the great Walt Disney once said, “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.” Let down your guard and put a smile on your face.
This is for fun.
As always, create your happy!
Take this theme and really make it your own, do what works and fits with your family.
