Happy Monday, my friends!
Sorry that this is late. I should have posted on Friday, but I decided to take some time off to be with my family. We all need to do that every once in a while to feel refreshed and ready to take on life, don’t you think?
It was a wonderful week and I’m grateful I took the chance to fully be present with the ones I love.
A few weeks ago I was invited to attend a meeting where my church presented the Christmas message for 2015.
It was such an amazing experience for me. My heart was touched and I was able to get my head in the right place to prepare for the coming holiday. I think this is the first time in years that I was listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving. My kids didn’t know what to think other than I had been abducted by aliens. The message, A Savior is Born, is absolutely beautiful and exactly what I needed. Instead of gifts, packages, and twinkle lights, I want my family to focus on the real reason for season.
I’ve decided that instead of coming up with a separate topic for December’s Family Focus, we will turn our hearts the same direction… to Jesus Christ. Because what better way is there to celebrate the Christmas season than to focus on the birth of the Savior of the world?
There are so many ways we can focus on our Savior as families.
My family is Mormon, but no matter what sect of Christianity you may belong to the focus is the same, Jesus Christ, our Savior. I love the messages my church has come up with because they are only focused on Christ, not on any other part of our doctrine so the messages apply to ALL followers of Christ not just those who are Latter-day Saints.
You can find these messages HERE.
Along with the main Christmas video above, there is a really fun line up of youtube videos ready to count down the 12 Days of Christmas. There are also animated GIF’s that go along with the story of Christ’s birth from Luke, Matthew, and Isaiah and even some darling memes. But, my favorite message is an animated video that talks about why we need a Savior. The first time I saw it, I was brought to tears.
I think this short little clip is a great visual teaching tool for all of us, but especially for children. I love it.
As always, I have created a Pinterest Board full of ideas for teaching about and focusing on the Savior, you can find that HERE. I will be adding to it throughout the month. Which reminds me, if you run across or come up with other ideas for focusing on Christ, PLEASE post on my Facebook Page or hashtag #FamilyFocusOurSavior on Instagram.
You can also search the hashtag #aSaviorisBorn on social media to see what other families are doing to focus on the Savior during this holiday season. I looked through last night and there have already been so many wonderful testimonies and thoughts shared.
So beautiful.
Later this week I will be posting a DIY project that you can use as a family to focus on our Savior throughout the holiday season, so keep your eyes out for that!
You guys, I’m so excited and I hope you are too!
May we focus as families this season on a baby born in Bethlehem and in doing put Christ back in Christmas.
