Now back to the post…
I’m in the middle of preparing for a Scout Court of Honor and I’m up to my eyeballs in blue cards. Add to that end of term and SEP appointments at my kids’ schools, 2 kids on basketball teams, my husband coaching our son’s team and playing in a rec league, finishing up 2 pieces of furniture in the garage to get ready to sell, not to mention all the day to day stuff like piano and art lessons! Needless to say, I’m about THIS close to climbing under my covers and not coming out.
I took everything down after Christmas and didn’t put any decor back up yet because I have a deep need to paint our main floor. Like I told you in the last post, I’m trying so hard to focus on finishing what I’ve started before I crack open those cans. Wow, it has been hard to restrain myself! I pulled out any Valentine’s decorations because I don’t want to put it all away so I can paint which is not going over well with my 10 year old. She loves the holidays and wants each one splashed all over the house. To appease her, I made a 5 minute Valentine’s banner to update a coffee filter wreath I’d hung up over New Years.
It was so simple and quick that I thought I’d share it here in case any of you are in a time crunch and don’t have a lot of time for crafting this Valentine’s! All you need is a few scrapbook supplies, an old plain wreath, some baker’s twine, and a few glitter clothespins!
I like to hang this coffee filter wreath in the winter because it reminds me of snow. I like that it’s easy to add things to so that I can change out the holidays. I had a glittery snowflake hung by a stack of assorted blue ribbon tied on it last winter and that was such a cute twist. You can use any kind of plain wreath that you have, I just happen to like this one and it was already hanging on the door.
I picked up a pack of red heart doilies, some glittered clothes pins (aren’t they cute!) and some mason jar stickers at Michaels. I used pink baker’s twine I already had in my stash and just quickly layered it all together. You can buy similar paper doilies HERE in a big pack for cheap, if you wanted to make a large banner for a mantle or banister.
I used the clothes pins to hang the doilies from the baker’s twine and then hung the whole banner from two more clothes pins that I pinned onto the sides of the wreath.
So easy!
A few days later I opened the door to find that my sweet little doilies were all curled up from the cold, so I glued some white cardstock on the back of the doilies and then cut around the scalloped edge. The cardstock made them look like old valentine’s and I love how the white makes the detail of the red paper doilies pop.
I should have done that from the beginning but live and learn, right?
Just a few minutes and only a few dollars worth of supplies updated my plain wreath for Valentine’s and made my daughter very happy.
I love those kinds of crafts!
Well, fun’s over!
Time to get back to work on Scouts.
I have a good attitude… I have a good attitude… I have a good attitude…
Do you go overboard decorating for each holiday
or do you like to keep things simple?

Such cute decorations! Love how easy and cute the doily banner is.
Thanks, Aliza! So simple… my favorite kind of decorations!
