I’d love to be one of those bloggers who have endless funds or gets projects/room makeovers sponsored by big companies. Sadly, I’m not so I have to save up and do things a little at a time. It gets incredibly frustrating when I have this rad vision in my head but lack the cash to complete it in a speedy quick timeline. But, I bet that’s probably pretty true to real life for most people. So, instead of getting upset I think it’s good to take a step back from a long drawn out process and celebrate the little victories.

Speaking of little victories, I got some new bedding for Mother’s Day and after putting it on the bed I couldn’t help but smile. Seeing the soothing navy and green color scheme helped me feel one step closer to the retreat I’ve had envisioned.

    Master Bedroom Progression

Here is what our bedroom looked like when we moved in 8 years ago.

This pic describes well what the first few years in this house looked like. We were so house poor! Gotta love those days! We went from a tiny room that could barely fit our bed and a dresser to a massive one. This bedroom is HUUUUGE, which has always felt like such a gigantic waste of space to me. If I had all the $, I’d move the wall between our bedroom and the room that our two youngest shares so they could have some room to grow. Yes, that’s a barstool as a nightstand. It’s all I had. The Cal-king bed was a hand-me-down from my grandparents, the duvet was found on clearance at IKEA, and that chair was given to me by my aunt when she moved out of state.

About 4 years ago the hand-me-down bed started falling apart. Because California King beds are pricey, I started looking for a way to hack a bed. At a yard sale, I ran across an oak wall panel from an old courthouse in the Uintah Basin that was remodeled. You can see the process of how I made it into a headboard HERE.

Last summer, I remade a pair of nightstands that had more storage so I sold the MCM ones. Find that process HERE. The color still makes me all sorts of happy.

    Navy and Green

I fell in love with the idea of a navy and green color scheme while looking at my friend’s sister’s Instagram design account, Trio Design. She posted a pic of some fabrics she was using in a client’s home and I was hooked. My husband loves blue and I adore green so it seemed like the perfect way to please both of us!

I still need to paint the walls, replace the hot glued carpet, hang art, mount the tv on the wall, and find a bed skirt that actually fits a Cal-king. Side note, do you know how hard it is to find Cal-king anything? Sheesh! And don’t tell me to make it easier and scale down the mattress. This is the first bed my husband’s feet haven’t hung off since he was 14. He’ll never go back, guess I can’t really blame him.

I get so caught up in all that I haven’t done that I forget about all that I have. Even though there is still a long list of to-dos, looking at how far our room has come sure feels nice.

    Like I said, little victories.

What little victories are you celebrating today?
