Sometimes all you need to give a piece new life is some cleaning and a little bit of love. I found this Eastlake lamp table on a local Facebook site last month and couldn’t resist buying it. I have a thing for carved furniture and this table is covered in it! Being a floor installer’s daughter, I love beautiful wood.

Though there were several decent sized scratches on the top and some previous repairs, I knew it would pretty up with minimal effort.

After giving the table a good cleaning, I sanded back the top and lightly sanded the base. Vintage lovers may cringe about me changing the original finish, but the top was hashed and needed a refresh.

Most Eastlake tables have a marble slab that protects the top but it looks like this one either never had one or it had been taken off years and years ago. After sanding all the scratches, I stained it first with Nutmeg and then with Antique Walnut to give the top a bit more depth. After letting the stain dry for a couple days, the final step was to give the whole piece a big drink of hemp oil.

    Hemp Oil

Hemp oil is a 100% natural, no VOC finish that is food and family safe. It penetrates deep into the wood and bonds with it which provides a strong, protective finish. I love hemp oil because it’s safe to use, brings out the gorgeous richness of wood, is water resistant, and leaves a beautiful matte look. I’ve been using it more and more over the last few years. Remember that gorgeous entry table I showed you last week? Hemp oil perked that base right up! Another bonus to using hemp oil is that another coat can quickly and easily be applied down the road if needed.

Hemp oil can take an old piece of wood furniture from forgotten and brittle to rich and fresh in a matter of minutes. It’s like gold in a bottle that the average DIYer can actually afford.

Reloved vintage Eastlake Table | Gypsy Magpie

I know designers say it’s black, and I do love a good shot of black, but in my opinion, every room needs a bit of natural wood to pull things together. A piece of beautiful wood furniture can really finish a room and give a sense of earthy grounding. The hand-carved Eastlake style of this vintage table is so cool. There is definitely a fantastic boho vibe and I’m loving it!

I rehabbed this table for myself but sadly, it doesn’t fit the spot I had planned it for.
It’ll be available for purchase over on Facebook if it’s calling your name.
