A couple weeks ago, I was given some tickets to try out Momentum Climbing-Lehi with my family. (While I was given the tickets for free, all opinions in this post are my own.) My hubby was trucking, so I asked my brother to come along and help me tag team the munchkins.
I love climbing, but Manly doesn’t so I haven’t been in years!
I was really excited to go, but didn’t know what to expect. Momentum Climbing-Lehi is a bouldering gym, so it’s a little different than your average climbing experience. There are no harnesses and ropes, just thick, cushy mats to catch your fall.
When you walk in, you fill out an electronic waiver then rent your shoes. If you haven’t worn climbing shoes before, they are really small and very uncomfortable to walk around in so keep that in mind and prep your kids!
There is a large open gym on the main floor, complete with a workout area. The workout gym is on the other side of the big boulder in the picture below.
Upstairs, there is a cute little kid climbing place.
At first, my youngest had a hard time.
She was overwhelmed and not sure what to do, but when she finally figured it out, she had a blast.
My brother was really patient with her and I think that is what helped her see it wasn’t scary.
(Don’t mind the star on Miss June’s bum… she is her Papa’s girl so we had to do some editing to make the pic G rated! What’s a “back with a crack” girl to do?)
The fun shaped hand-holds had Baby Girl’s imagination running wild!
She especially loved sticking her hand in the “blue monster’s” mouth.
It was really fun to see my oldest daughter climb.
She was a natural!
If her little sisters would have let her, she would have climbed all night long. She has loved to climb anything and everything since she was big enough to get around, but who would have known that she would have such a innate talent for bouldering? She didn’t complain one time! However, the gym staff did because she kept climbing to the very top and running around or hanging off the edge. So, know that once they get to the top they need to climb right back down. No monkey business. ;)
Thanks to the staff for being patient with us.
Miss June had a blast, too.
She loved this red course on the north side of the big main boulder. She went up and down over and over again until her little hands and toes were spent.
His long body and massive wingspan gave him a good advantage and helped him feel really capable, even though right now he is so gawky on the ground. I think it was good for him to realize he had skills because he doesn’t really feel skilled in much these days. If he keeps growing like he is, he’ll be a giant like his dad. I’m still not used to seeing his size 12 shoes kicking around. What happened to my fat little baby?
When you go around the corner in the back area, you’ll find this awesome wall jutting out at a steep angle that has different holds all over it. I think it’s called The Woody, but whatever it’s called let’s just say that my kids couldn’t get enough of it.
Maybe it’s because magpies like bright colors? Who knows.
I love this action shot of Miss June and her rapunzel hair!
I even got to climb a little bit, but definitely not enough!
If you have kids, be prepared to do a lot of lifting and coaching. This little monkey kept climbing up and then she’d get too scared to climb down, so she took a lot of my energy. By the end though, she was feeling a lot more confident in herself. It was rad to watch her progression from when she walked in to when she walked out.
I would love to go back with no kids and have a little climbing time just to myself because it is a killer workout and a ton of fun!
Here’s the run down for Momentum Climbing-Lehi:
An adult day pass is $17 and a youth day pass (11 & under) is $10
Shoe rental is $4
They do have individual ($59 a month + enrollment fee) and family ($89-109 per month + enrollment fee) memberships.
To be fully honest, this is a little pricey for my budget and if I hadn’t have been given tickets I probably wouldn’t have taken my whole family. However, now that I’ve seen how much my son and oldest daughter excelled, I would love to make this activity a fun mama/son or mama/daughter date. It could also be something we save up for and get to do every once in a while.
You’ll find this fun bouldering gym at 401 South 850 East, Lehi, UT 84043.
It’s tucked back in the industrial sector just off the freeway.
They are on Facebook and Instagram. I love their Instagram feed, so check it out.
It’s really fun to see the climbing talent out there!
*Oh, and before I forget, if you have little kids you’ll want to check out Funtopia on the north east side of the building. It looked amazing and my kids will freak out if they ever find out we were that close and didn’t go.
Have you tried bouldering?
