Oh my goodness, it’s really here!
Merry Christmas 2016, you guys!
I just wanted to take a quick moment in the craziness of Christmas to say thanks. Thank you for being absolutely awesome this year. Thank you for reading and for your kind comments. I can’t thank you enough for the encouragement you’ve given me. I hope this Christmas finds you snuggly warm, well fed, and happy. This year has definitely had it’s ups and downs and I’m so incredibly grateful that you’ve hung in along with me.
Yesterday, we celebrated the life of my beautiful cousin, Jen. I left her funeral with so much to think about and was up most of the night going over it all. My cousin shared a quote a few months before her unexpected passing that has ran on repeat the last 24 hours. It touched my heart and had to share.
“This is our one and only chance at mortal life—here and now. The longer we live, the greater is our realization that it is brief. Opportunities come, and then they are gone. I believe that among the greatest lessons we are to learn in this short sojourn upon the earth are lessons that help us distinguish between what is important and what is not. I plead with you not to let those most important things pass you by as you plan for that illusive and nonexistent future when you will have time to do all that you want to do. Instead, find joy in the journey—now.”

My heart aches that Jen is gone, but I am so grateful for all she taught me in her short 46 years. Jen was the phone police at family events. She demanded phones be kept in pockets and eyes on each other. She knew what was most important. In her honor, I’m going to take the next week to unplug and hunker down with my family. They are my everything. My reason for getting up in the morning. My sunshine and my joy. We’re going to build a snowman, read books by the fire, go sledding, play games, have movie marathons, and eat copious amounts of cookies. I pray you have the opportunity to do the things you love with the ones who mean the most to you. What better gift could we possibly give our families than our attention and time?
Much love and best wishes to each and every one of you.
May we focus on the important and find joy in where we are in this moment, right here, right now.
Merry Christmas 2016
